Really shocked to hear of the sudden death of technology pioneer and visionary Steve Jobs, aged just 56.
The San Francisco born co-founder and Chairman of Apple, had been suffering from various health issues since he had surgery for a rare form of pancreatic cancer in August 2004.
In January 2011 Apple announced that he would be taking an indeterminate medical leave of absence, which later followed with Steve stepping down from his role as CEO in late August, saying “if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”
Unconfirmed messages spread across Twitter until Apple confirmed roamers via press release on Apple.com.
Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and the original Apple team gave so much to the world, and he will be missed.
The most noted response to the sad news came from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who commented:
“I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.
Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.
The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honour. I will miss Steve immensely.”
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
