EA buys Popcap Games

Video game publisher Electronic Arts today announced the multi-million dollar take over of Seattle based game designers Popcap Games. In a statement, Popcap CEO David Roberts said

We picked EA because they have recast their culture around making great digital games. By working with EA, we’ll scale our games and services to deliver more social, mobile, casual fun to an even bigger, global audience

The deal, which EA CEO  John Riccitiello described as “a compelling combination” is rumoured to be around $750m, with an initial $650m in cash and $100m in EA shares, and should see Popcap titles such as Peggle and Plants Vs Zombies expanded across many more digital devices.
